Capturing the mood in Gouache - USK10x10SG - Workshop

We "Captured the mood in Gouache" during Saturday's workshop. The participants were very keen to learn and appreciative of the medium. A memorable and learning experience for me as an instructor as I learnt to keep track of the time, lesson plan, my 45 mins demo and attending to the queries of the participants. Strangely, I forgot to bring my palette(but had pictures to show how my palette looks) and water container, thanks Jenny and Favian for helping me with supplies. I had the wonderful Meg HLeng to assist me. Thanks for all the participants, I'm glad to have contributed in someway for your urbansketching journey!
Thank you SP Jain School of Management for the support!!
More great shots by Yuen Kit Mun to come, stay tuned!!

Botanic Gardens Singapore sketch

Sketched a 5" X 7" gouache on Saunders 300gsm paper from a photo I took in Botanic Gardens Singapore earlier this year. I was trying to capture the backlight from the setting Sun.

Punggol Park

My client who purchased the " Unconventional upcycled garden" sketch, also commissioned me to do a larger oil painting of her favorite view at Punggol Park. We had a couple of visits to the park and did a pencil study and a Gouache sketch. Later made some modifications to match the light and my client's preferences. Waiting to start with the oil study :)

Schoolism - Week 4

Week 4- Assignment from Schoolism's "Landscape Sketching in Watercolor and Gouache"

Assignments using the Composition principles together with the addition of two more pigments to the limited palette - Lemon yellow and Cadmium Red. Studies are from photos done under an hour. The darker tones in these pics are not convincing compared to the originals.

Schoolism

Week 2- Assignment from Schoolism's "Landscape Sketching in Watercolor and Gouache" course by Nathan Fowkes.

6 studies with focus on tonal patterns done using pic references. Rather I'm supposed to do life studies :|

Values

Here's a detail from a sketch (in progress) I did yesterday.....among the two traffic cones, one has a change in tone from light into shadow (showing convincing turning of form) and the other has a single tone throughout (can't see form and structure), this is why I think tones are very important. Any other views on this?
