Second day sketch in Bishan park

Second day sketch in Bishan park with Schmincke Akademie Gouache, it started raining just when daughter and I found a good spot to sketch and set up things under a tree. We moved to a nearby shelter and I continued, trying to capture the dark, cold, rainy mood in my sketchbook.

SCHMINCKE Akademie Gouache paints are now available in town and I tried using them in my outdoor sketch and a small studio painting. I tested them on 300gsm Cold Pressed Watercolour paper. I selected Indian Yellow, Carmine, Ultramarine, Turquoise, Sap Green and Burnt Sienna.

The pigments are bright and fresh, when mixed with white they give beautiful tints. However the tints vary from semi-transparent to opaque depending on the binder to pigment ratio. That makes me to use more pigment for a good coverage. I felt the paint is more towards the acrylic side and is more suitable for layering washes and glazing.

The paints retained their buttery consistency and didn't dry up even after 10 days when kept inside an air-tight contianer. Most of the pigments have been marked as high lightfast rating. There are 30 colours available in this Akdemie series including Gold and Silver colours, brilliant for illustrations and mixed media art. The paints come in 60ml tubes with a good variety of colours. The quality of the paint is good considering the price is much cheaper for more quantity.

My second sketch for the day

It was going to rain in the afternoon and this was my second sketch for that day at Bishan park. We saw boys playing in the little stream and crossing over to the other side of the park.
