Birdwatching Plein air

An 1 1/2 hour study ( on Saturday) in oil in the bird-watching spot of Sengkang Floating Wetland, can see lots of White Herons on the trees. They keep coming seasonally to the same place, usually a lot more than seen in the photo here.

Sketchwalk with Urban Sketchers Singapore

In Punggol Waterway, started with the intention of making loose, blending painterly washes but ended up with (two) too tight studies........ very happy to attend the sketchwalk this time nearby my place (Sengkang)....met many sketchers and enjoyed their lovely sketches!!

A study in monochrome helps to concentrate more on tonal relationships, this study is done from life. I'm trying to get the basics and nuances of the watercolour medium better when using a single colour as opposed to a set of colours.

A watercolour study from life, done a few weeks ago.

Sketch

Saw this man near the waterway today morning, he is exercising with a heavy weight wooden ring, first started to swing around his waist and then towards upper body. The ring was very long, he would have done this around 100+ times before going near the water to yell a loud "o" and the sound was so big and vibrating.

Here is the plein air painting I did today, the sky is overcast, so the light is cool and no much sharp or crisp shadows.

This is how I carry my wet oil painting from location, I have a box A4 size file with a thick Styrofoam sheet attached one side, I paste my painting with tape at the sides on the Styrofoam and close the file, that's it....can carry 2 canvas in one file by attaching second canvas on the other side cover.

Jalan Kayu temple study

Study of temple in Jalan Kayu in oil paint, four temples are here together one Buddhist and three Taoist temples, got only 1 1/2 hours to paint there, done with palette knife. I'm interested in capturing the grandeur and architectural intricacies, tempting to complete this soon, at home or again go to location?

This scene is very near to Sengkang west jogging track, tucked away from sight by the lush green foliage. A little peep into the landscape from the track opens the doors for a different world with the smells and sounds of nature.
